Q: What is GlideHair? A: GlideHair produce a coin-operated hair styler (straightener) that is located in many public places including ladies changing rooms and toilets in bars, restaurants, nightclubs, sports clubs, gyms, shopping malls and airports. GlideHair operates a unique business format allowing individuals and businesses to operate units with minimum investment.
Q: What business opportunities are there with GlideHair? A: You can become a licence owner whereby you receive the units from GlideHair FREE and pay a small on-going royalty to GlideHair. License owners can receive as many units as they require. To find out more please fill out the franchise and business opportunity form here.
We also have opportunities for Independent Sales Agents where you can receive an up-front commission for placing the GlideHair units.
Q: Expected Return on Investment? A: Returns are based on usage and in a busy venue a unit can produce exceptional returns. As licensee's are provided with units free, your only investment is the cost of installation!
Q: Is this similar to other vending opportunities? A: The GlideHair unit is a coin operated service which means you only need to visit to empty the cash. There is no product re-stocking or purchases like traditional vending machines and you can tailor the frequency of your visits to the usage of specific sites. Typically you may visit every 1-4 months which truly is a passive income. With other vending business franchises you often have to visit every week.
Q: How do venues get a GlideHair unit? A: There are two options available: suitable sites can obtain a free loan from a GlideHair Licensee where they receive a percentage of the takings or alternatively a venue can rent a unit and keep all the takings.
Q: How long is a session and what does it cost? A: a $2 coin gets 1 ½, 3 or 6 minutes of ‘power on' depending on how the unit has been configured. The straighteners heat up in seconds (or it may still be hot from a previous session) and stay hot for some time after the unit powers off. One session is generally sufficient, but the session can be extended by a similar time by inserting another $2 coin.
Q: What make of straighteners are used? A: Retail brand straighteners are not suited for use in public places. The straighteners installed in the GlideHair unit are made by one of the leading manufacturers and incorporate a number of features to make them suitable for this application. The performance of the straighteners is equal to or better than leading-brand retail straighteners.
Q: How is the unit installed? A: Installation is completed by a qualified electrician. Installation is quick and easy. A Certificate of Electrical Safety will be issued for the installation.
Q: How much electricity does the unit use? A: The unit only draws 45W of power. This means you get around 38 uses for 1 cent!
Q: What about safety? A: GlideHair has recognised its Duty of Care during the design, manufacture and installation of the GlideHair unit. The unit is designed for use in public places and has a number of in-built safety features to ensure that it remains safe either when used normally, or if the unit is subject to misuse (e.g. someone immersing the straighteners in water!). An integral electrical breaker will cut the power to the straighteners if there is any malfunction.
There are clear instructions on use and safety including prominent warning messages and triangles. During the installation, a risk assessment shall be conducted highlighting any potential hazards and the necessary steps of avoidance.
The unit is manufactured in Australia and fully complies with Australian and International electrical safety standards. GlideHair has had the stylers tested by an independent electrical testing laboratory to IEC standards.
Q: What about hygiene? A: The plates of the straighteners operate at 200˚C and therefore remain sterile. However we would recommend that the unit is cleaned as part of a regular cleaning routine.
Q: What maintenance is required? A: The GlideHair unit is generally maintenance free with easily swapped modular parts.
Q: How does the charity giving work? A: GlideHair has nominated the Cancer Council as its preferred charity. Each site can choose to donate 20 cents per use to charity.
